THE ANEU VALLEYS: AT THE HEART OF PYRENEES |
The Àneu Valleys, inside the Pallars Sobirà region, with an area of 408.18 km² and 2,162 inhabitants, is located at the head of the River Noguera Pallaresa in the northernmost area of the Pallars Sobirà. Confined to the northern French department of Ariège, west to the Aran Valley, east of the Cardos Valley and South with Llavorsí village.
From the geographical point of view, its location right in the axial Pyrenees, has set up the territory into a real natural paradise alternate hardwood valleys shaped by the action of rivers and ravines, conifer forests, alpine meadows and high peaks around lakes of glacial origin. The orientation of the topography and the considerable differences in height, give the area a diverse climate characterized by a Mediterranean climate of the valley bottoms, and an alpine climate with the Atlantic influence in the higher regions. Generally summers are mild and dry and cold winters, with short springs and autumns.

Alt Àneu |
The town of Alt Àneu consists of 8 villages that are distributed along the valleys formed by the Noguera Pallaresa and the river of Bonaigua, occupying an area of 193.79 km² in the northernmost part of the Pallars Sobirà, with a total population of 441 inhabitants. From an administrative point of view, the Alt Àneu is the result of the merger, in the late 60s, the former municipalities of Isil, Son, Sorpeand Valencia d’Àneu, with their added: Alós, Àrreu, Boren, Isavarre, Isil, Son, Sorpeand Valencia d’Àneu. At present, it has two municipal decentralized recently: that of Isil and Alós and Sorpe.
From a historic and cultural point of view, the town is inseparable from the history of the Àneu valleys, which belongs to a region characterized by a rich tradition and an ancient natural and cultural heritage of remarkable interest in play National Park of Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici lake. Municipality made up of 2 villages, Espot and Estaís, with an area of 97.37 km² and 362 inhabitants.
Located in the Valley of Escrita river, traditionally isolated by its geographical situation has undergone a tremendous transformation with the creation National Park of Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici Lake, and the Espot ski slopes of Alpine Skiing. All this has meant a change of production activities, ways of living and urban settings, but still retains a medieval watchtower tower which takes over the town, and a romanesque bridge over the Escrita river...

Town with an altitud of 957 m., 975 inhabitants and an area of 8.55 km².
It’s the geographical center of the Àneu valleys. Its economy is based on the services sector. The number of farms and livestock were gradually declining in favor of tourism, and about the industry, only remains the production of hydroelectricity.

The supply side of tourism is very complete, thanks to an interesting infrastructure services: It has great sports facilities: swimming pool, soccer field, tennis court, indoor sports center and two uncovered sport places. Municipality of 108.47 km² in area, with 384 inhabitants
Consists of 13 villages. Highlights the reservoir Torrassa (name that comes from the ancient and great tower that existed in this place). Meeting point for fishing enthusiasts and surrounded by roads suitable for biking routes and to make it pleasant stroll while enjoying the scenery.
