The Àneu Valleys, inside the Pallars Sobirà region, with an area of 408.18 km² and 2,162 inhabitants, is located at the head of the River Noguera Pallaresa in the northernmost area of the Pallars Sobirà. Confined to the northern French department of Ariège, west to the Aran Valley, east of the Cardos Valley and South with Llavorsí village.

From the geographical point of view, its location right in the axial Pyrenees, has set up the territory into a real natural paradise alternate hardwood valleys shaped by the action of rivers and ravines, conifer forests, alpine meadows and high peaks around lakes of glacial origin. The town of Alt Àneu consists of 8 villages that are distributed along the valleys formed by the Noguera Pallaresa and the river of Bonaigua, occupying an area of 193.79 km² in the northernmost part of the Pallars Sobirà, with a total population of 441 inhabitants. From an administrative point of view, the Alt Àneu is the result of the merger, in the late 60s, the former municipalities of Isil, Son, Sorpeand Valencia d’Àneu, with their added: Alós, Àrreu, Boren, Isavarre, Isil, Son, Sorpeand Valencia d’Àneu. At present, it has two municipal decentralized recently: that of Isil and Alós and Sorpe.
