To avoid his famous Durandall being captured by the unfaithfuls, Rollan tried, in vain, to cutting it. The hero seeks also to ensure the fate of the deck. So he orders Otto, his more loyal soldier, to monitor it with his eyes open.
After the heroic death of Rotllan at Roncesvalles, the loyal Otto alone passed through ridges and valleys, and arrived in the Àneu lands. The effort left him so weak that his horse fell down. He continued the journey on foot with the deck on his back. When he is close to the ground Guingueta, many of his bones were milled and his legs hurt.
